Everyone wants to change the look of the furniture of his or her house. It is not as difficult task as it may seem. There are different types of methods to change the look of the wooden furniture. Pickling is one type of this method.

The technique of Pickling can be applied by using thinned white, or off white paint or any other light colored paint. This technique is usually used to give a different look to the wood.

In this technique, firstly, you have to prepare the wood for the paint. For this, old paint should be removed from the wooden furniture through sanding. If you want to prepare the wooden floor, then you can use floor sander for this purpose. For the wooden furniture, sandpaper can be used, depends on the size of furniture.

Before using sander, make sure that no nails should be there on the floor or on the furniture. You can cover that areas or parts of piece with masking tape, not being sanded and painted. You should use good quality, coarse grade sandpaper to remove the old paint from the furniture. When you will finish the work of sanding then you should wipe out the dust from the piece of furniture, because dust from sanding can spoil the finishing of the paint.

Now, after sanding, prepare the paint. If you want best results, you should use latex paint based on water. For the Pickling finish mostly used paint color is white or off-white. You should make it thin by mixing the paint and water with the help of paint stick. After mixing, you can apply the mixture of paint and water on the floor, on furniture with bristle paint brush. Use a clean rag to wipe off the excess paint, immediately. You can continuously do this till the completion of first coat and let them dry for two days.

Once the item is dry, then you can make preparation for the next coat of paint mixture. Before starting next step, you should wipe off the dust from the floor or furniture, with the help of sandpaper. There is no need to remove the whole of the finish this time, so you should scratch it softly for the second coat. After doing this, you can start with the second coat of thinned paint as you have done before. Apply the paint with a bristle paint brush and then wipe of the excess paint with a clean rag, and then let it dry.

You should continue with these steps of painting until you are satisfied with the finishing of the floor and furniture. More coats of the paint color will give more dark color to the furniture or to the floor. For the completion of this work you have to apply a polyurethane finish to the floor or to the furniture.

Polyurethane finish can be applied on the dry wood, with the help of a brush. If you want, you may apply double coating of it. It helps to protect the wood from any type of scratches, and from any type of wear and tear.

Pickling finish is a technique that can give a special look to the furniture or to the wooden floor. It can protect the wood at home. It is a very low cost technique.
